I’m guessing that much of the proxy work that has been done for Jewish people has been done by genealogy enthusiasts who are of no relation to the Jewish people. If, on the other hand, it can be desrmntoated that a Jewish convert to the church is doing proxy work for his/her own ancestors, there is no reason to apologize.
